Hours and contact

Parents and guardians are welcome to visit the school library. Please submit a request to the principal first so we can arrange a time that does not interrupt instruction.

Access your child's library account

Parents and guardians may review the materials their child has checked out.

  1. Submit a written request to the campus principal, by email, by mail, or in person at the district office.
  2. Include your name, your child's name, and their grade level.
  3. We will provide the login information for your child's library account along with instructions for viewing their record.

This procedure follows Board Policy EFB (Local) under Access Procedures.

Restrict what your child can check out

Parents and guardians are the primary decision makers about their own child's access to library materials. You may give the library a list of specific titles, authors, or subjects you do not want your child to check out.

  1. Contact Mrs. Ellis or the campus principal by phone, email, or in person.
  2. Provide your list in writing. You may add to it or change it at any time during the school year.
  3. The library will flag your child's account so those materials are not checked out to them.

Under EFB (Local), a parent or guardian may also request an alternative library material for their child at any time.

Challenge a library material

If you have a concern about a specific item in our collection, please start by talking with Mrs. Ellis or the campus principal. We can offer your child an alternative title, or restrict their access to the material, right away.

You may also submit a formal written challenge. Under Texas Education Code §33.027, a parent or guardian of an enrolled student, a district employee, or any person residing in the district may challenge any material in the library catalog.

  1. Complete the form with the title, author, and ISBN if known, and explain how the material violates the collection standards adopted by the Texas State Library and Archives Commission (13 TAC §4.2). This explanation is required by law.
  2. Return the form, with any attachment, in person to the Woodson ISD Administration Office at 207 East Hill Street, Woodson, TX 76491, or by U.S. Mail to Woodson ISD, Attn: Library Materials Challenge, at the same address.
  3. The district forwards your challenge to the local school library advisory council no later than five days after it is received. The council makes a recommendation within 90 days. If no council has been established, the Board of Trustees acts on the challenge at its first open meeting after the 90th day.
  4. If you disagree with the outcome, you may appeal to the Board of Trustees. The Board acts on an appeal at its first open meeting after the appeal is filed.

Student access to a challenged material is suspended until the district takes action on the challenge. Questions about the process may be directed to the Woodson ISD Administration Office at 940.204.6521.

Before the district adds new titles to the library, the proposed list is posted here for public review for 30 days.
